Established in 1979 as a Christian response to poverty, Traidcraft is the U.K`s leading fair trade organisation. Its mission is to fight poverty through trade, practising and promoting approaches to trade that help poor people in developing countries transform their lives. As an example, one out of every four Bananas bought in the U.K. is fairtrade.
Obviously there are many fair trade products available - so what makes Traidcraft different?
~ Traidcraft starts working with producers before they achieve Fairtrade status, helping them reach neccesary standards.
~ Traidcraft invests in training and business development.
~ Traidcraft commits to working with producers long-term, and develops new fair trade products.
~ Traidcraft lobbies governments to improve justice in trade.
So how do you buy Traidcraft products? Fair Traders, who sell fair trade in their local communities, are the backbone of all that Traidcraft does ~ almost half Traidcraft`s sales income is generated by Fair Traders. You will find that buying from them provides you wih a wider range of fair trade foods and crafts to choose from.
Update to our Fairtrade Stall.
People at Brownhill have been taking a fresh look at our FairTrade stall, trying to see which products sell well and which do not sell at all. One of our problems is storage; there never seems to be enough space so over - ordering is not a good idea! Another problem is that people do not know the full range of products on offer. To overcome this problem we now offer a PDF version of an order form. Print out a form; indicate how many items you require (and quantity) and either give it to Hazel or post it in the Church letter box. Hazel will endevour to have your order ready by the following Sunday - assuming the items are in stock. The stall is open on a Sunday between 12.30pm and 1.30pm.
Alternativly, as you can see from the form, it is possible to deliver the order (within one mile of the Church addresses only - American / Russian / African viewers please note!).
